Simple Sentences

German language being very popular in many countries, it is important to know the language. So, take a first step for learning German language by starting with these simple sentences.

To acknowledge someone

English: Hi!/Hello!
German: Hallo! / Hallo!
English: Good morning/afternoon/night/day!
German: Guten Morgen / Tag / Nacht / Tag!

With strangers

English: Nice weather we have today; don't you think so?
German: Schönes Wetter haben wir heute, nicht wahr, so zu denken?
English: So, do you come here often?
German: Also, kommst du öfter hier?
English: Excuse me.  You look very familiar.  Have we met somewhere before?
German: Entschuldigen Sie mich. Du siehst sehr vertraut ist. Kennen wir uns irgendwo vor?
English: Excuse me.  Can you tell me what time it is?
German: Entschuldigen Sie mich. Können Sie mir sagen, wie spät es ist?

With acquaintances/friends

English: Hey! It's been quite some time.
German: Hey! Es ist seit geraumer Zeit.
English: How are you?
German: Wie geht es Ihnen?
English: Looking good!/You look great!
German: Sieht gut aus! / Du siehst toll aus!
English: What a pleasant surprise! I didn't expect to see you here.
German: Was für eine angenehme Überraschung! Ich hatte nicht erwartet, dich hier zu sehen.

Introductory sentences

English: Pleased to See You
German: Freuen uns auf Sie
English: What is your name?
German: Wie ist Ihr Name?
English: My name is…..
German: Mein Name ist ... .
English: What is it?
German: Was ist das?
English: Where is it?
German: Wo ist es?

At the restaurant

English: May I have (a cup of) coffee, please.
German: Darf ich (eine Tasse) Kaffee, bitte.
English: Do you have iced tea?
German: Haben Sie Eistee?
English: Is there a table available for four people?
German: Gibt es einen Tisch für vier Personen?
English: Can I get the bill?
German: Kann ich die Rechnung?

While shopping

English:
How much does it cost?
German: Wie viel kostet es?
English: It is very costly
German: Es ist sehr teuer
English: I wish to replace the currency
German: Ich möchte die Währung ersetzen

In general

English: Thank you very much
German: Vielen Dank
English: What is the time, please?
German: Was ist die Zeit, bitte?
English: I didn’t understand
German: Ich verstand nicht,
English: I love this country
German: Ich liebe dieses Land
English: I have come from… (America/UK, etc.)
German: Ich bin gekommen, ab dem ... (Amerika / UK, etc.)
English: Where do you stay?
German: Wo wohnst du?

Inquiring for directions

English: Where is the train station?
German: Wo ist der Bahnhof?
English: How to arrive at the airport?
German: Wie am Flughafen ankommen?
English: Where can I get a taxi?
German: Wo bekomme ich ein Taxi?
