ITALIAN CULTURE:
Italian culture has a rich history that includes art, architecture, music, food, popular traditions, customs and heritage.
Family Values:In Italy the family holds the centre of the social structure and provides a perpetual influence for its members. Generally in the north we find nuclear families; while towards the south, the extended family often resides together in one house. The family provides for both emotional and financial support to its members. They respect those who are older, those who have achieved an echelon in business, and those who come from well-reputed families.
Style: Italians care a lot about appearance. The way you dress indicates your social status, your family's background, and your education level. In Italy your first impressions are last impressions. They are extremely fashion conscious and you will be judged on your clothes, shoes, accessories and the way you carry yourself. They believe in the concept of ‘bella figura' or good image. Bella figura is more than dressing well. It extends to the confidence, style, character, elegance.
Religion: Italian are basically Roman Catholics. The number of Catholic churches per capita in Italy out number those in any other country. Most buildings will have a either cross or a religious statue in the entrance hall. The influence of the church is high, even though the attendance is relatively low. Children are named after saints and celebrate the saint's day as if it were their own birthday. People name their trade and profession by their patron saints.
