Learn Basic Mandarin Chinese

Mandarin is a Chinese spoken in Beijing and other parts of China. Before visiting China, learning some basic words and pharses roves important, so that you can communicate with the locals.

Hello in Mandarin is, "nihou"(knee how).

Good Evening in Mandarin is, "wanan" (Jaun on).

Thank you in Mandarin is, "xiexie” (che che).

Good-bye in Mandarin is, "zaijian" (ti chen).

English Mandarin Chinese
Please sit down. Qǐng zuò xia.
Stand up. Zhàn qǐ lái.
Please repeat after me. Qǐng gēn wǒ shuō yí biàn.
What color is this? Zhèi shì shénme yánsè?
Do you understand me? Wǒ shuō de huà nǐ dǒng ma?
It's lunch time. Gāi chī wǔfàn le.
Let's wash our hands for lunch Xǐxi shǒu, gāi chī fàn le
Stay in line. Pái hǎo duì.
It's time to go Gāi zǒu le
Please help. Qǐng bāng-bang máng.

AT A RESTAURANT:

What would you like to eat?
Nǐmen èr wèi chī diǎnr shénme ?

Do you have a menu? First have a look at the menu.
Yǒu càidān ma ? Xiān kàn yíxià càidān.

Here is the menu? Please have a look.
Zhè shì càidān. Nǐmen xiān kàn yíxià.

We'll first have 3 cold dishes, a cucumber salad, a plate of shelled peanut and a beef cooked with soy sauce.
Xiān lǎi sān gè liángcài, yí gè bànhuángguā, yì pánr huāshēngmǐ, yí gè jiàngniúròu.

And what about hot dishes? What hot dishes would you like?
Rècài ne ? Yào shénme rècài ?

We'll have a half roast duck and a "fish-smelling" hot shredded meat.
Lái bàn zhī kǎoyā, yí gè yúxiāngròusī.

What soup do you want?
Yào shénme tāng?

An egg and tomato soup, and a bowl of rice.
Yí gè xīhóngshì jīdàn tāng, yì wǎn mǐfàn.
